Employment History
- MY AZZURRA II 47 Meter MY > First Officer (March 2019 – September 2019) I first worked with Captain Malcom in 2008 and was recommissioned by him for a similar role during the 2019 Mediterranean season. The nature of this position was not only hands on at a highly technical level but it gave me the opportunity to manage a crew of 12 which I found a rewarding experience. I have proved that I am competent in handling a ship of this size and am available for a captain’s position of a 40 m motor yacht.
- MY Sans Abri 27 Meter MY > Captain / Engineer (September 2013 – December 2017, 4+ years). In this role I assumed command of a one year old vessel with crew. This came with some challenges, but with hard work and perseverance, this enabled us to raise the vessel’s operational and service performance to a high level. Sans Abri became a very popular charter vessel with record numbers. During this time we cruised S.E. Asia and the Mediterranean providing the owner and chartered tours hassle free yachting experiences that provided enjoyment and excitement.
- MY Celtic 2 28 Meter MY > Captain / Engineer (March 2013 – September 2013, 6 months). Having taken over the build two weeks prior to handover / shipping, I used my knowledge of previous build and inventory to have the vessel ready immediately for the owner. I obtained this position due to my previous build experience at the Sunseeker factory in Poole. Cruising France and Italy.
- MY Oomka 27 Meter MY > Captain / Engineer May 2011 – March 2013 (2 Years). Securing my position as Captain on MY Oomka was a great achievement, this was a long-term goal and with it came great professional satisfaction. MY Oomka is a 27m Sunseeker Yacht, I was present for the last two months of the build process, we launched her in June 2011. Over the next 18 months we navigated over 10,000 NM cruising all areas of the Mediterranean Sea. Insisting on best presentation, typically the vessel was kept in immaculate condition. During my employment I was also overseeing the build of 35m Sunseeker yacht Chimera.
- MY Alfa Nero 82 Meter MY > Tender skipper (September 2010 – December 2010, 3 months). I joined Alpha Nero with an open mind to consolidate what I had learned to date, this proved to be very worthwhile as I gained sea time and confidence in my ability.
- MY Maridome 54 Meter MY > Bosun (October 2009 – September 2010, 11 months). As bosun, this was a steep learning curve in not only maritime but also social skill. This experience gave me a much better understanding of guest service and customer satisfaction. This commission took me to the Caribbean for the first time. It came with its challenges as the captain, crew and brought an older, slightly run – down boat to a high standard of presentation.
- MY Midlandia 52 Meter MY > Bosun (April 2008 – May 2009, 13 months). This was my first international commission. As bosun, I gained hands-on experience and understanding of the super yacht industry. Midlandia was the perfect introduction to the Mediterranean. I proved my ability to manage crew with safety and efficiency and gained the respect of all on board. During this time, I learned the management of LSA and ISM equipment, bridge procedure and dealings with the rich and famous and exclusive international clients. The crew were very helpful and supportive which gave me courage and optimism. The captain was also most encouraging and admitted I had exceeded his expectations. This gave me a big morale boost and I knew I was committed to the industry.
- Beachcomber Cruises > Captain (October 2006 – March 2008). As a skipper for Beachcomber Cruises I had the opportunity to command several fast ferries. These were typically catamaran (up to 150 passengers) and mono-hulls operating in New Zealand’s Marlborough Sounds. Covering 120 NM and performing 60+ individual manoeuvres each day, often in variable weather and sea conditions, this was a fertile training ground. During my time with Beachcomber Cruises, I was responsible for the maintenance and operation of a fleet. Even the company owner admitted the boats had never looked so good. This commission also gave me my first taste of developing regular customer relations and market orientation. This was both fun and rewarding.
- The Cougar line > Captain (October 2004 – October 2006) remote locations. The hours were often long and included extensive night time navigation and manoeuvring. The vessels, all catamarans 15m to 20m running twin Volvos was the first fleet for which I was in charge of maintenance.
